Big Milestones for Drew

Drew crawling towards Rudy

This past week has been a big week for Drew. He started crawling and he just pulled himself up on to the stairs yesterday. Blake was the only one that saw him actually do it, we just saw the end result. Drew is so proud of himself that he can move now. With that new found freedom he also has gained some separation anxiety. As soon as I leave the room he chases after me and cries if he can't get to me. Separation anxiety is very common for this age group but I was a little shocked that Drew has it. So far he has seemed so easy going and independent. His favorite thing is still watching his big brother, although he has also started noticing Rudy more. Poor Rudy.

Blake had an exciting week too. He got to go to Vacation Bible School for the first time. It was also very exciting for me since I had a few hours every morning with only one child :) Blake had a blast! It helped that he was in the same class as some of his friends. One day I asked him what he learned and he said that he learned about Power. I asked, "who has power?" He said, "Gizmo has power." (Gizmo was one of the characters for the week). Then I asked, "Who else has power?" "Me." and I asked "who else?" "The energy man!" I am trying to get him to say Jesus since that is probably what he learned so I said "who has the most power?" He said "Daddy!" Another day he said that they learned that our hearts had a hole burnt in them. I replied, "oh, and Jesus can fix it?" Blake looked at me like I was crazy and said "No, they just are burned up." I would have loved to know what they really learned about. It's kind of like the game of telephone. By the time it gets to the last person, it doesn't always sound the same as the original message.

I also had a nice week because my sister came in to town for the weekend. It was so wonderful to see her and she was so happy that she could become Blake's friend. She had asked him what she could do to be his friend like uncle Josh was his friend. He said there was nothing she could do to be his friend. She felt sad until later Blake said that she just has to turn in to his friend. She made a robotic noise and turned in to his friend. They were friends for the rest of the weekend. Who knew it was so easy.

Couch Potato

Blake and Kyle ran a few errands yesterday and when they got home Blake said. "I just want to sit on the couch, eat my chocolate pretzels and watch a movie." Wow, that seems to be a good definition of a couch potato. He must have some really good role models :)

Drew and Kyle after the wedding

Blake and his new friend Hanna (she was the flower girl)

Last weekend we had a great trip to Missouri. We started out in St. Louis and gained a new sister in law. Kyle's brother Matt got married and now Maureen has joined the family. The wedding was great and the weather could not have been better. Blake was the ring bearer and did a fantastic job. I found out later that they told him he could have a treat if he smiled as he walked down the aisle. That explains why he sat down and said "Mommy, I'm hungry." His other outburst was when he saw a bee and said, "Mommy, look at that big bee!" Only two interruptions to the wedding is pretty good for a 3 year old. Drew also did his part to break the silence. He had nice timing that day. He decided to throw up sweet potatoes on him and me right as I was being seated for the wedding. Those family pictures should turn out nice :) After the wedding festivities were over we drove to see our niece in Columbia. Kyle's brother David and his wife Natalie had a beautiful little girl named Adelyn. Great timing so that we'd be able to meet her while in Missouri. They had only been home from the hospital a few hours when we all showed up. There were 8 of us including Blake and Drew that showed up to welcome Adelyn to the family. Next we continued west to Kansas City where we stayed for a few days to hang out with Kyle's parents. We took the boys to a fun little park/petting zoo and made it to the pool once, but the weather was not cooperating for us to do more than that outside. It was cold and rainy. We welcomed the 101 degree weather that we returned to (ha, ha). I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.
